TRAINING JACKET – Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, the Kappa Rho Omega chapter of Farmville, is sponsoring a winter coat drive from October 13 through December 13. The drop-off sites are Bland-Reid Funeral Home on Griffin Boulevard in Farmville and Cheryl’s Beauty and Barber Shop in Dillwyn.

BATTLE OF BULBS – The Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the entry period for the Bulb Battle Holiday Decorating Contest. The registration period is from November 19 at 5 p.m. to November 27 at midnight. For more information, visit


MOAA MEETING – The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) is hosting a monthly self-paid lunch and program on Friday, November 19 at 12:30 p.m. at the Riverside Café, 522 N. Main Street, Farmville. It’s a week early due to Thanksgiving. Active / former / retired / spouses / widows military officers are invited. Read Charleton will speak on “Ft. Pulaski, April 1862.


CRAFTS AND SELLERS FAIR – The Christmas Crafts and Vendors Show will be held on November 20, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Central Virginia Produce Auction site on Route 60, half a mile east of Sprouses Corner, Dillwyn. THANKS ACTION DINNER GIFT – Prince Edward Elks Lodge 269 and Manhattan Temple 184 are sponsoring a Thanksgiving dinner for the elderly. The giveaway will be a drive-thru from 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 21. The event will take place at the Prince Edward Elks Lodge, located at 636 S. Main St, Farmville.

GUEST PREACHER – The High Bridge Baptist Church located at 2526 Lockett Road, Rice, will have a Sunday service on Sunday, November 21 at 10 a.m. with guest preacher Reverend Silas Blanton. Masks are mandatory.

VISIT OF MISSIONARIES – Heritage Baptist Church at 700 Milnwood Road in Farmville will welcome missionaries Joe and Penny Thompson during its service at 11 a.m. on Sunday, November 21. The Thompson’s recently retired after serving in Thailand. At 10 a.m. that day, Penny will testify in front of Adult Sunday School classes about when she was having malignant brain surgery while her mother was dying here in Virginia.

FEEDING THE MINISTRY – Empowerment Temple The Church of God in Christ will host “Nurturing the Ministry” on Saturday, November 21 from 11 am to 1 pm. A free hot Thanksgiving dinner will be served. MEETING OF SOILS AND WATER OF PIEDMONT – The Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District will meet on Tuesday, November 23 at 11 a.m. in the boardroom of the Prince Edward County Agricultural and Natural Resources Building located at 100 Dominion Drive, Farmville. The public is welcome to attend, but you must register by Friday, November 19 so that social distancing measures can be put in place for the meeting. Masks are mandatory upon entering the building and during the meeting.


DRIVE THRU THANKSGIVING DINNERS – VA Smoove Rydaz MC / SC will be hosting a Thanksgiving Drive-Through Dinner on Wednesday, November 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Farmville Station. Pickup and delivery available in the Farmville area by calling (434) 607-1145. Pick-up locations include County Line Market Parking Lot, Worsham Grocery Parking Lot, New Life Assembly Church Parking Lot, Prospect Convenience Store Parking Lot, and Millbrook Store.


FEEDING FARMVILLE – Feeding Farmville saves people to receive a free meal on Thanksgiving morning. Donations and volunteers are also needed. The deadline to register to receive a meal is November 17th. Call (434) 392-1875 or email [email protected]


NOL OPEN HOUSE – Historic Buckingham, Inc. will be holding its annual Christmas Open House from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Housewright House Museum and Adams Museum on Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 5. Museums will be decorated for Christmas and will feature special exhibitions of “Dolls Through the Years: From Chinese Dolls to Barbie Dolls”. There is no admission fee. The museums are located on Route 60 across from the Buckingham County Courthouse at 13012 W. James Anderson Highway, Buckingham.


FARMERS HOLIDAY MARKET – The Holiday Farmer’s Market will be held at the Farmville Community Marketplace on December 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The market will feature more than 20 vendors offering gift items and handmade baked goods. The Farmville Community Market is located at 213 North Street, Farmville.

CHRISTMAS LUMINAIRE EVENT – The Trinity Memorial Gardens will hold a Christmas light on Saturday, December 4, starting at 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and light a candle for family and friends. For more information, call (434) 392-3008.

CHRISTMAS MARKET – Historic Buckingham, Inc. will be holding its annual Christmas Market on Saturday, December 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Historic Village located at 84 Lee Wayside Road, Buckingham. The Christmas Market will feature arts and crafts, jewelry, paintings, ornaments, Amish baked goods and natural Christmas wreaths from Foxfire Farm. Lunch will be available.

SILENT NIGHT – White Bird Appaloosa Horse Rescue located at 1688 Burkes Tavern Road, Burkeville will host its “Silent Night” event from 11 am to 6 pm on December 4th. Come and have a fun time with friendly rescued horses. The event will include refreshments and pony rides. You can help fill the bottom of a horse and support the horses. CHURCH OF CHRIST OF PIEDMONT – Piedmont Church of Christ located at 1405 North Main Street, Farmville hosts a Bible study at 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning and church service begins at 10:30 a.m. The church also hosts a Bible study at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. The church has a free clothing donation on Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. weather permitting.

BAPTIST CHURCH OF JERICHO – Jericho Baptist Church located at 615 Franklin Street, Farmville will have indoor worship service every Sunday at 11 a.m., live service on Facebook every Sunday and on WFLO 870 radio every 2 and 4 Sunday at 11 a.m. . Rev. Dr. James H. Taylor, III is the pastor.

CORNERSTONE BAPTIST CHURCHCornerstone Baptist Church located at 18 Horsepen Road, Farmville, will change hours of service. The hours of the church service and Sunday school will change from November to April 2022. Sunday school will start at 9:30 am in the pavilion and the worship service will begin at 11:00 am. Park and Praise and in-person worship services on the second, third and fourth Sundays will continue. The church will always follow CDC COVID-19 guidelines.

Mourning support group – The Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) offers a bereavement support group for those who have suffered recent or long-term losses. It is an ecumenical group welcoming anyone who has experienced loss. The group meets the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 2 p.m. at the FUMC located at 212 High St. Participation in the discussion while attending the sessions is optional. CHURCH SERVICESStarting Sunday, October 10, Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland will have three options for worshiping on Sunday: indoor service at 10 am, mask required; Radio parking service at 10 a.m. on 89.7 FM. and the YouTube service later Sunday afternoon.

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF FARMVILLE – Farmville Presbyterian Church at 200 West Third St. will have a service in service every Sunday at 11 a.m. Join us and Reverend Pete Smith on Sunday mornings in person or enjoy the audio of our services on the church website. FOOD DISTRIBUTION – Delma’s Pantry in Cumberland County will be hosting a curbside food distribution at Cumberland Middle School on the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month at 9:30 a.m. every Friday. Senior boxes will be distributed during the distributions.

AMATEUR RADIO MEETING – The Charlotte County Amateur Radio Club meets the first Sunday of the month at the Drakes Branch Municipal Building located at 4800 Drakes Main St. at 3 p.m. If you have any questions, contact Dan at (434) 210-8383.

VETERANS AFFAIRS SERVICES – American Legion Accredited Veterans Duty Officers are available to see veterans and their families at Farmville VFW on the second and fourth Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Veterans Service Officers can be reached at (434) 414-6504.
