Leaders here at New Hope Baptist Church are working to rebuild their sanctuary after Hurricane Laura. They say the structure is complete and they are focused on impacting more people.
“They want to raise God’s house a little bit. We often wonder how we can take care of our own house, but GOD’s house is falling apart. So the deacons came to me and told me it’s what they want to do to try and get the building back up and running because we were hit hard by the storm.”
Due to conditions at New Hope Baptist Church, Pastor Jerry Lee Jackson says he had to hold services in the church parking lot.
The church was heavily damaged by wind and water during Hurricane Laura. The damage caused water to leak from the roof and made the floors uneven.
Deacon Marshall Jackson explains that the plan is to target the main sanctuary first and then expand to other parts of the church.
“We are planning to repair all the floors, change the floors, put in hardwood floors, we have two air conditioning units and we need to re-level the building. Also the stock room needs some work.”
One of those “best” things the church wants to do is bring more people into the congregation. However, executives say they need to make sure their buildings are in top condition to do so.
“So maybe if we can do that, we can see our ways of doing much better things.”
New Hope Baptist Church may accept donations on Sundays or a check has been written to the church. Pastor Jackson says, however, that the fundraiser will take place on Sunday, the church will accept donations at any time.
