Jinger Duggar opened up about her decision to start wearing pants, a stark contrast to the way she was raised.

The 27-year-old grew up one of the 19 of the Duggar house, and the parents Jim Bob and Michelle are devout, independent Christian Baptists who pride themselves on their conservative outlook.

“My mother had always dressed us girls with skirts and dresses, a standard which was taken from Deuteronomy 22: 5, which says, ‘A woman should not wear a man’s garment’ (ESV) and I never really questioned it. ” Jinger has now shared his autobiography, The hope we hold.

“Modesty was a huge topic in our house, and we thought that wearing skirts instead of pants was a central part of modesty.

“But I wanted to find out for myself what the Bible had to say.”

Moving to Los Angeles with her husband Jeremy Vuolo, Jinger says she became “more aware of the different beliefs and doctrines of Christians” and that “not everyone interpreted the different passages of scripture as I always have, and wanted to know why.”

While studying the scriptures, Jinger said she realized that her “beliefs were changing” and that “Bible modesty runs deeper and deeper than wearing skirts instead of pants.”

Jeremy wrote in the book that he was “caught off guard” when his wife asked him if she should continue to wear skirts, and he admitted he didn’t want to “tell her what to do or make the decision. for her, but just to send her back to the Scriptures. “

Jinger then chose to follow her heart and faith as she saw fit, but admitted that she worried about how her parents might make her choices.

Jinger admitted she was worried about “hurting” her parents

“I knew they cared deeply about their beliefs, and I didn’t want to hurt them now that I didn’t share those beliefs,” she wrote.

“I felt moved because I feared my parents might think I didn’t appreciate the way I was raised.”

Jinger isn’t the only Duggar to have broken with his parents’ beliefs

Jinger isn’t the only Duggar to have broken with the strict beliefs the family grew up with; sisters Jill, Jessa and Joy-Anna were all pictured wearing pants or shorts.

The family follows strict guidelines in their daily life, including no alcohol and no bare skin, and men and women are not allowed to be alone together unless they are married.

Ten of their children are married – Joshua, Jean-David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josias, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah and Justin.
