Faithful Fridays cult series begins June 3 at Hemlock Park

Faithful Fridays are a series of Christian services held on the first Friday of June, July, August and September. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Big Rapids Band Shell, the community is encouraged to take a picnic and blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy the music and message offered by the following churches.

June 3: Charity Baptist Church

This church will kick off the Faithful Fridays series. The music for the first event is conducted by Micah Taylor, she has a classical background in opera and singing. I believe you will be blessed if you listen to him share his talent. She’ll share the bandshell stage with a vocal friend for duets, and those together will join in for a song or two. Micah says they plan to bring activities for kids, so I encourage families with kids to come see what kinds of activities they can offer.

The message will be delivered by Pastor Josh Dellinger, who served at Charity Baptist just over a year. He and his family are from North Carolina. He has a large young family with six children. I think you will enjoy this first event. They are excited to bring a message to our community.

July 1: Connect Church and concert by Winona Avenue

The Christian Rock band, Winona Avenue, from Indianapolis, Indiana, will perform a concert beginning at 6:30 p.m., then move on to a worship time. They are a duo of brothers who have recorded and released easy listening music. This would be a good event to invite teenagers, students and young adults to attend; families of all ages are welcome.

Pastor Mark Robb is new to the Big Rapids area, he is starting a church called Connect Church, which will meet in the auditorium of Crossroads Charter Academy beginning this fall. Active in helping wherever there is a need, he sits on the board of directors of Our Brothers Keepers and is already involved in local missionary work. I am curious to hear his message and learn more about him and why he became a pastor.

August 5: Woodville Community Church, Woodville, Michigan

This church is led by Pastor Brett Werner, who will also give the message on August 5 for our third Faithful Friday event. I would call him a Bible teacher and I believe his knowledge of the Bible is important. I learn something new every time I hear one of his sermons.

Their praise team is led by Pattie Morse, who is talented on guitar and vocals. The worship team will be complete and their music will be a mixture of old hymns, praise songs, and I’m sure those who attend will be able to join in the singing and worship together. The church is a lively place; members are active in various ministries, including the Prisons Ministry at the County Jail and other ministries that provide service to communities in and around Big Rapids and Woodville.

September 2: First United Methodist Church, Big Rapids

The main worship on September 2 will be the near-famous choir from the First United Methodist Church, which will offer a variety of praises and hymns that most people will know and be able to sing along to. There will be some special music tracks in the mix.

Pastor Jeremy Wicks is also new to the church. He will celebrate a year in Big Rapids. He is already making a difference in the community, is now a certified law enforcement chaplain. The church hosts family events, such as game night and craft night, and has relaunched its community meal program on Thursday evenings for those who need or want a meal at church. Members are active in local ministries in and around Big Rapids.

Faithful Friday events are sponsored in part by Michael Oil & Propane and The Old Pioneer Store & Emporium. Find us on Facebook at Faithful Fridays. This is your invitation to bring your family, a meal and some chairs and join us this summer at the Big Rapids Band Shell. We’ll see each other there!
