Deacon Colleen Bernu to preach at Lord of Life and host Micah Group conference on July 24

BAXTER — Deacon Colleen Bernu of the Northeast Minnesota ELCA Synod will serve as guest preacher at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Baxter, at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 24.

Bernu is Gospel Mission Director and Synod Minister for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

A former teacher, she is also a member of the Fond Du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

The theme for the Sunday service is “Obliged to Reach Out to Others.”

After the service, Bernu will join Lord of Life’s Micah group for a conversation about the cross-cultural Lutheran experience in the United States. Lord of Life will send 20 high school students to Duluth and Michigan on a mission trip. The group leaves Thursday afternoon.

There will be a worship service on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on July 27. The theme for the evening is “Renewed in Hope Every Day”.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church News

On Sunday, July 24, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 418 Eighth Ave., NE, Brainerd, will celebrate the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost with an in-person service and live stream at 9 a.m.

First Lutheran Church News

First Lutheran Church, 424 S. Eighth St., Brainerd, will celebrate the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost with worship in the sanctuary and online at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 24.

The Coffee Exchange will take place from 10-11 a.m. at Koinonia Hall.

South Long Lake Church to host Klasky

Pastor Al Klasky will speak at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 24 at South Long Lake Church, 13152 Smart Road, Brainerd.

Trinity Lutheran Church, 1420 S. Sixth St., Brainerd, will have two worship services.

On Wednesday, July 20, there will be a mid-week service with Holy Communion served at 6 p.m.

On Sunday July 24, there will be a traditional service at 9:00 a.m. with Holy Communion. There will be a special presentation by Vacation Bible School students. The service will be broadcast live on KVBR 1340 Radio and streamed live on YouTube.

After the service, the transition team will have a “Looking Back” program with refreshments.

Zion Annual Polka Music Service Ensemble

Zion’s 22nd Annual Polka Music Service with Chuck Thiel and the Jolly Ramblers will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 23 at 220 N. Eighth St., Brainerd.

A picnic meal consisting of brats, burgers, baked beans and fries will be served.

The Jolly Ramblers will provide additional musical selections during the meal.

This event is sponsored by the LLL Group and the Zion Outreach Council. A voluntary offering will be taken.

Outdoor music concert scheduled for Saturday

MALMO – Malmo Free Church will present Mike and Ted in concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday July 23.

They have performed at many of the state’s top festivals, including the Lakes Area Bluegrass Festival, the Itasca Family Bluegrass Festival, and the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association summer and winter festivals.

Malmo Church is located on Highway 18 near the junction of Highways 47 and 18, near the northeast corner of Lake Mille Lacs.

ISLE – RURAL Music Fest is a free 4-day outdoor event, from 7 p.m. August 25 to 5 p.m. August 28, at Redemption Hills, 43694 Highway 47, Isle.

All seats are general admission. A small section in front of the stage will be standing only and open to everyone.

Bring chairs or blankets.

For those with umbrellas or shade tents, there will be a marked section at the rear.

RURAL Music Fest is an alcohol-free event. Smoking will be permitted in the parking lot.

No outside food or drink is permitted, except water and light snacks for young children.

Doors will open one hour before the first performer takes the stage each day.

First Baptist Church 150th Anniversary Celebration

BAXTER — First Baptist Church, 7398 Fairview Road, Baxter, will celebrate its 150th anniversary July 30-31.

The Ebenezer 5K Run/Walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. with late registration at 8:00 a.m. Those interested can sign up here:

There will be carnival games, a hunt for medallions, inflatable structures and food trucks at 2 p.m.

Teen Challenge will perform at 5 p.m. in an outdoor concert followed by the Ball Brothers concert at 6:30 p.m.

There will be a church service at 9 a.m. on July 31, followed by a picnic at 11 a.m.

There will be another service and mortgage burning at 12:15 p.m.
